Emergency Forest Restoration Program

My name is Wayne Rieger and I am the Executive Director of the Larimer County Farm Service Agency, a USDA agency located in Fort Collins.  We administer programs authorized by the Dept. of Agriculture for the benefit of landowners and operators in Larimer County.

I am sending information about the signup period for our newly authorized Emergency Forest Restoration Program that my office will administer for the High Park Fire area.  We have been authorized to hold a signup from August 1st through September 28th.  During this time we will accept signed contracts from interested landowners who lost trees in the fire.  The program will offer U S Government money on a cost-sharing basis at 75% for practices that will protect and reestablish the natural resource on the land.  Producers interested in the program will work with my office and with the Colorado State Forest Service who is the designated technical agency for the program.  My office will handle the contracting and payments and Mike Hughes and his fellow workers will determine needs and feasible of various practices including removing dead trees, planting new trees, planting grass, mulching, contour log felling, site preparation and other components.  I am attaching a copy of a Fact Sheet and a press release that provides general provisions and information about the program.  If you know of anyone who might be interested in this program, maybe you can provide them with the enclosed information so they can contact us to start the signup process for their properties.
